MISSION STATEMENTDr. Hickey and his staff are committed to providing quality dental
care in a comforting, gentle environment. We feel we can accomplish this goal and "cater to cowards" by focusing on the following
concepts.
LISTENINGIt’s important for us to listen to your goals, expectations,
concerns and fears about your dental care, so everyone can be "on the same page" as to how and what type of treatment is provided.
EDUCATINGUnderstanding the causes and progression of different dental diseases
and conditions is important to reduce anxiety and apprehension while undergoing care. We utilize the CAESY dental patient
education system on DVD. It’s a complete series of short audio/video presentations. By viewing CAESY and having discussions
with our staff, a firm understanding of various conditions and treatment options can be achieved.
PARTICIPATIONSome dental problems or conditions may have several treatment alternatives.
We feel that a full understanding of the cause of the dental problems and how they progress, along with a discussion and explanation
of treatment options will help you, as a patient, to select the treatment you are most comfortable with.
TREATMENT OF FEAR AND ANXIETYOnce a treatment plan has been decided upon and appointments are
scheduled, some patients are still uncomfortable about receiving dental care. We try to provide a relaxing atmosphere
in the office. Televisions with headphones are in each operatory with cable, as are movies and music videos on VHS or DVD.
Also, the radio or CDs can be played through these headphones. Sedation can be provided via nitrous oxide/oxygen (laughing
gas) or a prescribed oral medication, such as Valium. These can help provide the anxious patient with relaxation. And when
you relax, it’s so much easier!
STERILIZATIONOur staff is fully up to date on OSHA regulations for cross-infection
control. Our sterilizers are tested weekly to ensure that our instruments for treatment are clean and totally safe to use.
